Chapter 2 - Our Style & What We Teach
Being a practical system, we encompass many elements which are taught in a variety of different ways. These we have grouped into the following categories.
- Administrative Essentials
- Individual Work
- Paired Work
- Weapons
Administrative essentials
We provide insurance cover for all students and instructors through the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts (BCCMA).
Individual work
We always start a class with warming up through Chi Gung and with static and dynamic stretching. Often techniques are practised individually and sequences formed in the same way. We also use Forms as a heavy basis to heightened personal development.
Paired work
We appreciate that increased understanding comes through experience and we often train in pairs to further develop understanding of techniques. At the same time, training with a partner allows for better limbering, for pad work and for sparring.
Weapons
Whilst in today's society it is not practical we still teach traditional weapons to promote training and understanding of our key principles. For example being able to judge distance and move flowingly.
